I designed this rather massive book which contains the collected writings of the the foremost close-up magician of the 20th Century, Dai Vernon (“The Professor”), as they appeared in Genii magazine from 1968 through 1990. His skill, inventiveness, and devotion to magic revolutionized the art and craft and had a profound influence that extended into many other branches of show business.
The Vernon Touch is a time capsule of the entire history of 20th century magic, spanning nine decades. It features hundreds of hand retouched photographs (I’m looking at the hand as I write this, as a matter of fact) and supplemental materials.
Not only was Dai Vernon at the center of the magic world in New York City from the 1920s through the early 1960s, his move to Los Angeles in 1963 to coincide with the opening of The Magic Castle once again placed him in in the center of it all.
